Historic Absence: Hyderabad Omitted from Telangana Cabinet; Congress Contemplates Key Nomination
In a historic twist, Hyderabad currently lacks direct representation in the Telangana state cabinet for the first time in a decade. None of the Congress leaders from the city secured seats in the recent Assembly elections, leading to speculation about Congress nominating a prominent Hyderabad leader as a Minister in the Telangana Legislative Council.
In all 15 Hyderabad Assembly constituencies, the Congress failed to win a single seat, and a similar situation unfolded in the Ranga Reddy district, where only two seats were secured. Despite Congress's success in other Telangana districts, Hyderabad and its neighboring constituencies, held by major parties like BRS, AIMIM, and BJP, remained out of reach. To address this, Congress is reportedly considering nominating a leader to the Cabinet through the Legislative Council in the coming months.
Hyderabad, representing a significant portion of the state's population and revenue, necessitates local representation in the State Cabinet. With two vacant Governor's quota seats and three BRS MLCs transitioning to MLAs, leaders like M Anjan Kumar Yadav, Mohammed Azharuddin, Madhu Yashki Goud, and Mohammed Shabbir Ali have the opportunity to vie for MLC positions.
As A Revanth Reddy assumes the role of Chief Minister, the State Cabinet is poised for expansion, with at least nine MLAs expected to join soon. Esteemed leaders, including N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and others, are strong contenders for ministerial appointments. Their willingness to contribute underscores the urgent need for enhanced representation from Hyderabad.
