Hotstar Outperforms All Other Streaming Services

Disney+ In 2022 and Q1 of 2023, Hotstar, a video streaming service owned by Walt Disney, had the highest consumption rates in India's premium video-on-demand (VoD) category. In fiscal year 2022, it was India's most popular streaming channel.
The combined viewership of sports and Hindi regional entertainment was 38 percent. Sony-Zee's premium VoD share was 13% compared to other platforms, largely thanks to high viewership of sports, regional, local, and international programming.
According to research conducted by Media Partners Asia (MPA), a company that offers consulting services to the media and telecommunications industries, the Indian online video market is experiencing consumption, content, and investment trends. Real Android, iOS, and computer consumption was tracked for two years (2022–2023).
However, beginning in Q2, Jio surpassed the competition thanks to its coverage of live IPL matches. Jio Cinema usage increased by a factor of 20 during this period. Also, 60% of Prime Video's viewership can be attributed to the availability of locally produced content. In comparison, only 24% of Netflix's viewership can be attributed to the popularity of US-produced major titles. YouTube, meanwhile, had 88% of the market.
According to experts, the next six months will be pivotal for the industry as companies shift their attention from investing in content to maximising revenue and profits. In this light, Disney+ Hotstar is proud to have a robust local market made possible by Star's extensive library of Hindi and regional content.
While business is brisk for Jio during the Indian Premier League season, the company plans to use domestic and international premium content to position itself for expansion into the premium market after the IPL concludes.
