How Indian Is The IT Industry Witnessing A Change?
In the face of a catastrophic global pandemic, India showed great grit and versatility. India spearheaded the world toward change among the few countries at the forefront of technological transformation and innovation.
As COVID-19 compelled businesses to move online, Indian enterprises catalyzed their digital transformation plans.
The disruption that began in 2020 has shifted the tech hiring paradigm in India. Over 5,00,000 new jobs were created in the IT services industry in FY2021-22. Although the $200 billion Indian IT industry faces unprecedented attrition, it is eager to find ways to meet the demand for tech talent.
The pandemic accelerated digitalization by 5 to 10 years. Since the pandemic outbreak, companies are increasingly investing in remote work collaboration tools, cloud technologies, digital customer outreach, automation, and AI to streamline complex tasks.
According to the ISF (Indian Staffing Federation), the Indian IT and ITes industry intends to hire 8,00,000-10,00,000 people by the end of 2023. As the volume of hiring rises, we are witnessing a variety of job roles and skills.
With Metaverse, Web3, and Industry 4.0 on the horizon, a rise in specialized roles and skills is inevitable. The most sought-after tech talents in the current landscape are UI/UX designers, Android/iOS app developers, AR and VR technicians, Low Code No Code developers, and DevOps engineers. Blockchain developers, cybersecurity engineers, and Unity 3D developers are also gaining prominence.
The gap in demand and supply has inevitably tipped the scales in favor of job candidates. Because there is a talent shortage, companies are waging war for talent and poaching talent.
As one door closes, another opens, and it has precisely been the case with the Indian IT industry. As a result of talent shortage, the Indian IT industry turned to unconventional talent, from non-IT graduates to contract hires.
