Hyderabad Aims for Olympics 2036: First Telangana Sports Hub Meeting Held

Telangana has taken its first formal step towards bidding for the 2036 Olympics, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy chairing the inaugural meeting of the Telangana Sports Hub Board of Governors. The high-profile gathering included sporting legends Kapil Dev, Abhinav Bindra, and Pullela Gopichand, along with entrepreneur Upasana Konidela and other key members.
The discussions focused on building Hyderabad into a global sports destination by strengthening infrastructure, creating world-class training facilities, and nurturing young athletes. Hyderabad already has a proven track record, having hosted major events like the 2002 National Games, the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, and the 2007 Military World Games. The government now seeks to build on this legacy to place the city on the international sporting map.
Chief Minister Reddy pledged full support to the initiative, emphasising that Hyderabad has the talent, passion, and capacity to aim for the Olympics. He called the Sports Hub a transformative project that will not only position Hyderabad as a sporting capital but also inspire India’s youth to excel globally.
The meeting marked the beginning of an ambitious journey, with sports icons sharing insights on how Telangana can become a hub for international competitions. The government aims to accelerate infrastructure development, attract global collaborations, and boost India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics.
