Hyderabad to Hold Mock Air-Raid Drill Amid Security Tensions

Hyderabad will conduct a major civil defence drill, codenamed ‘Operation Abhyaas’, on May 7 from 4 to 4:30 PM, simulating an airstrike scenario in light of heightened national security concerns following Operation Sindoor.
The drill will restrict traffic momentarily in key zones including Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda Cantonment, Kanchan Bagh, and Nacharam—areas within the city’s Outer Ring Road. Emergency vehicles like ambulances will remain unaffected and have green channel access.
The simulation will include air-raid sirens, temporary power outages, and loudspeaker alerts to mimic a real-time strike scenario. It is being jointly organized by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, with support from the police, fire department, health units, and civic bodies.
Buses run by TGSRTC will continue to operate normally. Residents in affected areas are urged to cooperate and avoid panic. The timing of the drill, coming hours after India's cross-border military operation, highlights the city’s preparedness for emergencies and the government’s emphasis on civil readiness.
