If the Congress were to regain power, KTR says, Telangana's progress would be reversed.
KT Rama Rao said that the Congress had been in power in India for 55 years but had done little to improve the quality of life for the people there.
IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said on Thursday in Mahabubnagar that the Congress was in power for 55 years here, but had failed to ensure proper power supply and even drinking water to the people. He sounded a serious warning that the Congress back in power would mean a reversal of the entire development that Telangana had achieved so far.
At a public gathering in Jadcherla, he warned that the State will be forced to start over, with the possibility that even programs like Rythu Bandhi and Dalit Bandhi might be dismantled. He claimed that Congress officials, despite their many past failures, were still trying to mislead the public with empty promises.
There will be a reversion to the days of Rs.200 pensions and 3-hour daily electricity cuts. The Rythu Bandhu and Dalit Bandhu initiatives would also fail," he said.
He harshly criticized Congress leaders, saying that one of them had boasted about walking 750 kilometers as part of a padayatra in the state. But logically, he queried, would these padayatras be necessary if the Congress had secured provision of sufficient water, power, and jobs during its tenure?
For fifty years, Congress had ignored the farming community and common people's problems.
He noted that the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation scheme was being given top priority by the State government, while the Uddandapur and Karivena reservoirs were expected to be finished by August-September despite Congress leaders filing court cases and creating hurdles in execution of the projects. Once the Uddandapur and Karivena reservoirs were full, 1.40 million acres in the Jadcherla constituency will have access to irrigation water.
The Minister blasted TPCC president A Revanth Reddy for his claims that the Jadcherla constituency had seen little progress, saying that Reddy had become "blind to the rapid development in all sectors."
There were as many as 32,477 retirees in the area receiving pensions of between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 3,000 per month.
He claimed that whereas the Congress administration only provided pensions of Rs.200 to 29 million people at a cost of Rs.800 billion per year, the BRS government was providing pensions of Rs.2,000 to 46 million people at a cost of Rs.12,000 billion per year.
Also, 1433 families in the district were given Rs.5 million under the Rythu Bima program. According to him, Rs.900 crore was sent to farmers' accounts under Rythu Bandhu in just the Jadcherla constituency.
