Rajiv Khanna Managing Attorney, Immigration.Com inform a reputed news channel about the online scam that took place in US.
He mentioned: recently, our clients received a phone call from a woman claiming to be an immigration officer. Through her caller ID it showed that she was calling from a govt agency. She threatened our client that a warrant had been issued because her paperwork had not been updated. She also insisted that our client not disconnect as the call was being “recorded.” And if our client Disconnect the call, the officer could no longer help. She could fix the problem if payments were made immediately through online gift cards. She was so convincing that our super-intelligent client was frightened.
Our client emailed me and included me on a 3-way call without the knowledge of this woman. It took me about 15 seconds to know that the “immigration officer” was an obvious fraud.
When Mr. Khanna posted this scam alert on social media, hundreds of similar cases were revealed.
USCIS has noted amongst their alerts, specifically for India:
The amount of information the scammers possess about you might astonish you, but that should be taken as an indicator of the caller’s veracity.
Important Points take into consideration:
No govt agency calls to threaten you over the phone.
No govt agency insists you not disconnect their job.
No govt agency demands immediate payments through unusual means like Western Union, Moneygram, gift cards, etc.
It is easy to make caller ID, websites,emails appear to be genuine.
Hang up on these callers and register a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.https://reportfraud.ftc.gov.
