In 14 Days, The COVID 3rd Wave Will Peak

According to a preliminary study by IIT Madras, India can see the peak of the current wave of Covid-19 in the next fortnight.

The R-value that denotes the rate at which Coronavirus spreads has been further to 1.57 in the January 14-21 week. The value indicates how an infected person can spread the number of people.

IIT Madras’s Department of Mathematics and Centre of Excellence conducted the preliminary analysis for Computational Mathematics and Data Science, headed by Professor Neelesh S Upadhye and Professor S Sundar.

The data also indicated the R-value of 3 other metro cities of Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai at 0.67,0.56 and 1.2, respectively.

Explaining further, Dr. Jayant Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras, said the R-value of Mumbai and Kolkata shows that the peak is over there, becoming endemic. At the same time, for Delhi and Chennai, it is still close to 1.

As per their analysis, Jha further said that the coronavirus peak is likely to come in the next 14 days until February 6.

The earlier prediction was that the peak of the 3rd wave is likely between February 1 and February 15.

According to guidelines issued by the ICMR, contacts of Coronavirus patients do not need testing unless they are deemed high-risk based on their age or comorbidities.

According to Union Health Ministry data on Sunday, India logged 3,33,533 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total to 3,92,37,264 cases.
