India Must Create 148 Million Jobs by 2030, Urges IMF’s Gita Gopinath
According to IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath, India faces the critical challenge of generating up to 148 million additional jobs by 2030 to keep pace with population growth.
Speaking at the Delhi School of Economics Diamond Jubilee event in New Delhi, Gopinath emphasized the urgency of this task, noting that with just six years left until 2030, the country must significantly ramp up job creation efforts.
To meet this ambitious goal, Gopinath highlighted the need for fundamental reforms, including land reforms and the implementation of labor codes, which are crucial for fostering employment at the required scale.
She also pointed out that private investment must increase to support job creation, as current levels do not align with India’s 7% GDP growth rate. Without such reforms and investment, achieving the necessary employment generation will significantly challenge India.
