India, in last 24 hours registered a record jump of 4,213 COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally to 2,206 with 97 fresh fatalities. This is country’s highest ever single-day spike in Coronavirus cases.
Out of these total 67,152 cases, 44,029 are active while 20,916 people have recovered, and while the death toll, climbed to 2,206 today.
So far, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state at 22,171 cases, followed by Gujarat whose count stands at 8,194 with 493 deaths.
Meanwhile, States which have reported more than 3,000 cases are Rajasthan (3,814), Madhya Pradesh(3,614) and Uttar Pradesh (3,467). Other major states and Union Territories that have reported more than 1,000 cases are Andhra Pradesh (1,980), West Bengal (1,939), Punjab (1,823) and Telangana (1,196).
Also, Prime Minister will conduct a video conferencing session with chief minister of states today to discuss about the phased exit from lockdown on 17 May.
Meanwhile, government will restart passenger train service from May 12 that will initially include 15 pairs of train to specially run from New Delhi to different states.
