‘India an Important Strategic Partner, PM Modi a Great Friend’: US Embassy Quotes Trump
US President Donald Trump has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “great friend” and describing India as a vital strategic partner for the United States, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. The remarks were shared by the US Embassy in India through a post on social media platform X on Tuesday.
According to the embassy’s post, Trump referred to India as an “amazing country” and highlighted its deep civilisational roots. “India is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It is an amazing country and an important strategic partner for America in the Indo-Pacific region. We have a great friend in PM Modi,” the post read.
The statement underscores the continued emphasis on strengthening India-US ties across strategic, economic and geopolitical dimensions. Over the years, cooperation between the two democracies has expanded in areas such as defence, trade, technology, space, and counterterrorism.
Trump’s remarks also reflect the growing importance of India’s role in maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific, a region that has become central to global strategic competition. Both countries have worked closely through platforms such as the Quad, alongside Japan and Australia, to promote a free, open and rules-based regional order.
The personal rapport between Trump and Modi has often been highlighted during bilateral engagements, including high-profile events like “Howdy, Modi!” in Houston and “Namaste Trump” in Ahmedabad. These interactions have helped deepen political trust and public diplomacy between the two nations.
The embassy’s post comes amid ongoing efforts to sustain momentum in India-US relations, regardless of changes in leadership. Analysts see such statements as reaffirmations of long-term strategic alignment, signalling continuity in partnership despite evolving global challenges.
