India requests the recall of forty Canadian diplomats amidst diplomatic tensions
According to recent reports, the Indian government has requested that Canada recall approximately forty of its diplomats from India by October 10. Following diplomatic tensions between the two countries, the request has not yet received an official response from the Indian government. According to the Financial Times, Canada presently has 62 diplomats stationed in India, but India has requested a reduction of 41 diplomats. The specific reasons behind this diplomatic action have not been officially disclosed.
When Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested that the Indian government may have been involved in the execution of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, tensions between New Delhi and Ottawa reached a new low. On June 18, Nijjar, an Indian-designated terrorist, was gravely shot outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
