Indian American Sriram Krishnan Appointed Senior White House AI Policy Advisor
In a significant move to bolster America’s leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Indian American entrepreneur and technology leader Sriram Krishnan as the Senior White House Policy Advisor on AI. Announcing the appointment, Trump said, “Sriram Krishnan will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.”
Krishnan, known for his leadership roles at major tech firms including Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook, and Snap, will work closely with David O. Sacks, who has been named the White House AI & Crypto Czar. Together, they will coordinate AI policy across government agencies and engage with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
“Sriram will play a critical role in ensuring continued American leadership in AI and in shaping policies that foster innovation while addressing critical challenges,” Trump added.
Krishnan, who began his career as a founding member of Microsoft’s Windows Azure team, expressed his enthusiasm for the role on the microblogging site X, saying, “I'm honored to serve our country and work closely with David Sacks to secure American leadership in AI.”
The appointment has been met with widespread praise, especially from the Indian American community. Sanjeev Joshipura, Executive Director of Indiaspora, stated, “We heartily congratulate Sriram Krishnan on this prestigious role. His expertise in public policy, technology, and international affairs will greatly benefit the nation.”
Krishnan’s role is part of a broader strategy to position the US at the forefront of AI innovation and governance in the evolving global landscape.
