Indian Woman Trying Her Hand at Politics in the US
RejaniRaveendran, a 40-year-old college student of Indian descent, is running as a Republican against Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin's senate race. With over a year before the primary elections, she is the first Republican candidate.
After visiting Washington, DC, Raveendran, a mother of three and former nurse-midwife, joined the campus Republicans this year and decided to run. She sees a need for change beyond traditional politicians and strives to bring new political viewpoints to the table.
Her top concerns are: 1. Border security.
2. Fighting substances like fentanyl.
3. The issue of undocumented immigration.
4. Advocating "medical freedom" in opposition to vaccination regulations.
5. She places emphasis on being an ordinary person who is acquainted with difficulties.
By obtaining US citizenship in 2015, Raveendran fulfilled the nine-year threshold for Senate eligibility by 2024. She supports the late President Donald Trump and wants to provide fresh perspectives to the political scene.
Notably, more prospective Republicans have opted out of running, giving Raveendran's campaign a unique presence.
