Indians now constitute over 10% of US visa applicants
The US Embassy has already issued more than a million non-immigrant visas to Indian travellers this year, surpassing a goal it set for itself after opening weekend slots to clear a pandemic-related backlog.
According to a statement released by the US Embassy on Thursday, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti personally presented the one millionth visa to Ranju Singh, who is visiting the United States with her spouse to meet their student son.
Visa categories for non-immigrants include business, travel, student, and personnel visas. The US Embassy stated that over 1.2 million Indians visited the country last year, describing it as one of the world's most robust travel relationships.
Indians now account for over 10% of all visa applicants worldwide, including 20% of all student visa applicants and 65% of all H&L (employment) visa applicants, according to the statement.
Our partnership with India is among the most significant bilateral relationships, and one of the most significant in the globe. Garcetti stated that the ties between our people are stronger than ever, and that we will continue to issue a record number of visas in the future months.
