Iran Launches Missile Strikes After Killing of Senior Officials
Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after Iran launched missile and drone attacks following the killing of two senior officials in Israeli strikes. Among those killed were Ali Larijani and Gholam Reza Soleimani, both influential figures in Iran’s security establishment.
Iran confirmed the deaths and retaliated by firing multiple-warhead missiles toward Israel. Strikes hit areas near Tel Aviv, causing casualties and damage. Iranian forces also launched attacks targeting Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, though many projectiles were intercepted by air defense systems.
The conflict has intensified concerns over regional stability, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route. Iranian officials signaled they would maintain control over the waterway, raising fears of disruptions to energy supplies worldwide.
The United States responded with airstrikes on Iranian missile sites near the coastline. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump called on allies to help secure the strait, though several nations reportedly declined involvement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the strikes, stating they were aimed at weakening Iran’s leadership. However, the situation remains volatile, with continued missile launches and retaliatory operations on both sides.
The conflict has also spread beyond Israel and Iran, with incidents reported in Iraq, the UAE, and Lebanon. Civilian casualties and infrastructure damage are mounting, while global oil markets react nervously to the escalating crisis.
International organizations, including nuclear watchdog agencies, have urged restraint amid fears that further escalation could trigger a broader regional war or even a nuclear safety crisis.
