Jagan Accuses Naidu of Taking Undue Credit for Hyderabad’s IT Growth and Vizag Data Centre

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused his successor N. Chandrababu Naidu of habitually taking credit for achievements initiated by previous governments, particularly in Hyderabad’s IT growth and the Visakhapatnam Google-Adani Data Centre project.
Speaking on Wednesday, Jagan said Naidu had long claimed credit for Hyderabad’s technological transformation, including the Cyber Towers in Madhapur, which were actually initiated by former CM N. Janardhan Reddy. He argued that the real IT revolution occurred under Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) between 2004 and 2009, during which projects like the Outer Ring Road, PVNR Expressway, and GMR International Airport were completed. “Under YSR, IT exports rose from ₹5,660 crore in 2003-04 to ₹32,509 crore in 2008-09, reaching ₹57,000 crore by 2014. Today, Telangana’s ₹2 lakh crore IT industry stands on that foundation — built by YSR and later expanded by KCR, not Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.
Jagan also accused Naidu of misleading the public about the Google-Adani Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, asserting that the project was conceptualized and initiated by the YSRCP government in November 2020, with land allotted to Adani Group for a 300 MW facility. The foundation stone was laid in May 2023, alongside the 3,900-km Subsea Cable Project connecting Singapore and Visakhapatnam — a joint initiative of the YSRCP government, the Centre, Singapore, and Adani.
“The so-called Google Data Centre is merely an expansion of the Adani project we initiated,” Jagan said, emphasizing that Adani’s ₹87,000-crore investment is among India’s largest in data infrastructure. He added that the YSRCP’s vision was to build an entire ecosystem — including IT parks, skill colleges, recreation hubs, and 25,000 new jobs — rather than a standalone project.
“Visakhapatnam’s transformation reflects YSRCP’s foresight, not Naidu’s slogans,” Jagan concluded. “Adani is building the structure, Google is adding the technology — and we built the foundation. Chandrababu’s only contribution is publicity.”
