Jagan Undertake Mission To Clean Krishna And Godavari Canals

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday held a review meeting at his camp office at Tadepalli in Guntur district to discuss the cleaning of Krishna and Godavari rivers. He plans to involve local voluntary organisations, the municipal administration, the Irrigation Department and the Pollution Control Board in the clean-up drive.
He also launched a website, and after that, he instructed the officials to regularly clean the parks and walking tracks along the banks of the canals. His focus was on solid waste management, beautification, and operation.
The work would be carried to an extent of 1,344 km initially covering 36 major canals across both the rivers. In total, Krishna delta has 9,800 km canals and Godavari delta 10,000 km. He further directed the officials to make special departments that would monitor and execute the clean-up drive.
The main motive for the drive is to reduce pollution and ensure greenery at the places which are nearer to canals. Also, without using cement and concrete on the bunds, the pathways must be constructed by with stones, he suggested.
