Jharkhand Crisis: Cm Hemant Soren's Majority Test Today

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, whose job is in trouble over allegations of corruption, will take a test of his majority today.
During a special one-day session of the Jharkhand assembly, Hemant Soren will take a trust vote. On a special flight from Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh, MLAs of the ruling coalition were sequestered at the state guesthouse to prevent poaching.
Hemant also called a meeting with the MLAs yesterday. The party has called for fresh elections and has demanded that the CM resign "on moral grounds."
Mr. Soren and his party have accused the BJP of trying to take advantage of the crisis and lure MLAs of the ruling coalition to cross over and bring down the elected government, following the pattern in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.
The Election Commission has submitted its opinion to the Governor, who will announce his decision regarding Mr. Soren soon.
A majority of 41 MLAs make up the ruling coalition in the 81-member assembly. JMM has 30 MLAs, Congress has 18, and Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has one.
As the main opposition party, the BJP has 26 MLAs.
