JioAirFiber will revolutionise connectivity in India with its 5G FWA service
New Delhi: According to a new report, JioAirFiber's 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) service in India will revolutionise connectivity thanks to its high speed, low latency, and attractive pricing.
According to GlobalData, a leading provider of data and analytics, JioAirFiber functions as an alternative to wired broadband connections for homes and small and medium-sized businesses due to its high speeds and low latency. Plans begin at just $7.2 (Rs 599).
The innovative JioAirFiber service is now available in eight Indian cities, offering high-speed connectivity of up to 1 Gbps.
"Jio is strategically targeting this market segment with its JioAirFiber service offering, which combines digital entertainment, high-speed broadband, and smart home solutions," explained GlobalData telecom analyst Pradeepthi Kantipudi.
JioAirFiber simplifies household and office connectivity by enabling the seamless connection of multiple devices such as smartphones, PCs, tablets, smart TVs, and set-top boxes.
In addition, this 5G FWA service is able to meet the connectivity requirements for cloud PCs, security and surveillance, and the Internet of Things in smart homes, among others.
"The lower costs and reduction in constraints in the last mile mean that more homes and businesses will be able to get online, thereby helping to bridge the digital divide and transform the country into a premium digital society," Kantipudi said.
FWA stands out as a cost-effective strategy that leverages the potential of 5G mmWave technology to deliver fiber-like internet speeds wirelessly to rural and urban households and businesses.
This technology is also well-suited for serving institutions such as schools, hospitals, and town councils, overcoming rural last-mile obstacles effectively.
Bharti Airtel launched its 5G FWA service, Airtel Xstream AirFiber, in select cities in August for $9.6 (Rs 790) per month.
The report stated, "This move by Jio illustrates the growing interest among telecom providers in FWA services as a means to extend broadband connectivity to underserved areas of the country and provide an alternative to wired connectivity."
It is anticipated that the aggregation of smart home services, digital channels, and OTT subscriptions will increase the country's adoption of this novel service.
JioAirFiber has been introduced in eight cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune.
There are two categories of JioAirFiber plans: AirFiber and AirFiber Max.
AirFiber customers will have access to 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps plans beginning at Rs 599, while AirFiber Max customers will have access to 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps plans beginning at Rs 1,499.
The company announced that AirFiber Max will be available in select areas.
