Jubilee Hills Bypoll: BRS to Move Supreme Court, High Court Over ECI Inaction Against Congress
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced plans to approach the Supreme Court and the Telangana High Court against what it calls “biased inaction” by the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election. Party leaders accused the ECI and the State’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of failing to act on multiple complaints against Congress leaders, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
At a press conference in Hyderabad, senior BRS leader and former MP B. Vinod Kumar, along with general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, alleged that the ECI’s silence was eroding public confidence in democratic institutions. “When former CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao was penalized for MCC violations, why is Revanth Reddy being spared despite clear proof?” Vinod Kumar asked.
He cited instances where the Chief Minister allegedly warned that welfare schemes would be halted if people didn’t vote for Congress, and where party candidate Naveen Yadav allegedly threatened BRS workers. “Isn’t this a violation? Why is the CEO silent?” Kumar questioned.
The leaders recalled meeting the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi to present evidence, but claimed no response followed. Bharat Kumar criticized the ECI’s lenience, calling it a “serious threat to democracy,” and demanded the deployment of central forces in Jubilee Hills to ensure a fair election. “When the Commission overlooks such acts, people begin to wonder if the ECI still exists,” he remarked.
