K.T. Rama Rao Slams Rahul Gandhi for ‘Betraying Telangana’s Auto Drivers’
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of betraying Telangana’s auto drivers by failing to deliver on key welfare promises made during the 2023 Assembly elections. Addressing a gathering at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, KTR alleged that the Congress government’s neglect has pushed thousands of families into financial distress.
Welcoming auto drivers’ union leader Shakhan into the BRS, KTR reminded that Rahul Gandhi had personally met auto drivers and even rode in an auto-rickshaw during his campaign, promising to set up an Auto Drivers’ Welfare Board and provide annual financial aid of ₹12,000 to each driver. “Two years later, neither promise has been fulfilled,” he said.
Highlighting the worsening condition of drivers, KTR shared the story of Mashrat Ali, whose auto once carried Rahul Gandhi during his campaign. “Today, the same driver has been forced to sell both his vehicles because of economic hardship under the Congress government,” he said.
KTR claimed that 161 auto drivers have taken their own lives in the past two years due to the government’s apathy. “Rahul Gandhi must wake up from his deep slumber. You promised change within 100 days, yet Telangana’s working class continues to suffer,” he declared.
Accusing Congress of “moral hypocrisy,” KTR said, “Rahul Gandhi speaks about justice and compassion but fails to honour promises to the poor. When you betray those who trusted you, you lose the moral right to preach equality.”
Demanding immediate action, KTR urged the government to implement the promised welfare board and financial assistance scheme. “Words don’t feed families,” he said. “Telangana’s auto drivers deserve justice, respect, and real support — not empty speeches.”
