KT Rama Rao Warns of Impending Bus Fare Hike in Telangana
Hyderabad – BRS working president KT Rama Rao has indicated that bus fares in Telangana may soon increase due to the State government’s Mahalakshmi scheme, which offers free bus rides for women. Rama Rao highlighted the financial strain on the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), noting that similar schemes in Karnataka have led to significant losses.
Rama Rao urged people to understand that “free” services come at a cost and predicted that Telangana RTC would soon follow Karnataka’s example and hike bus fares. Recent data revealed that 70% of Hyderabad’s bus passengers are women traveling for free, with over 55 crore zero tickets issued since the scheme’s launch in December last year.
