KT Rama Rao questions state-specific coal block auction rules.
Industries Minister KT Rama Rao strongly objected, asking why there were different rules for different States in the same country after the Centre excluded three coal mines in Tamil Nadu from its auction list.
The state of Telangana had been demanding the same thing about four coal blocks located within the state that the Coal Ministry had repeatedly been putting up for auction to open up the country's resources for commercial mining, despite the State's strong objections.
He noted that Telangana has been urging the Centre to grant the coal blocks to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for the past two years. Coal blocks in Telangana were included in the latest round of auction notifications issued by the Coal Ministry last week, despite previous attempts to sell them at auction yielding no takers.
The BRS is leading a massive protest at Singareni and other places in Telangana against the auction, adding to the widespread agitation against the Centre's move.
On April 4, Tamil Nadu's chief minister, MK Stalin, asked the Centre to exclude three coal blocks in the Cauvery Delta region from the planned coal block auction. The Centre acceded to this request in the act of blatant discrimination.
This is what we have been demanding and protesting for at Singareni Collieries right up until today. The removal of four Telangana coal mines from the auction list and their subsequent, direct allocation to SCCL.Why do some states in the same country have different regulations than others? Rama Rao made a tweet.
