KTR Criticises BJP and Congress Over POCSO Case
K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), launched a sharp political attack on both the BJP and the Congress government in Telangana while commenting on the POCSO case involving Bhageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Rama Rao accused the BJP of following double standards in the handling of the case and questioned the party’s commitment to equal treatment under the law.
Referring sarcastically to the BJP’s slogans such as “One Nation-One Tax” and “One Nation-One Election,” KTR remarked that the party appeared unwilling to maintain uniformity when influential political families were involved. He stated that while the POCSO Act remains the same for all citizens, the BJP seemed to follow separate standards for the son of a Union Minister and ordinary individuals accused in similar cases.
Apart from targeting the BJP, Rama Rao also criticised the Congress-led Telangana government headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He alleged that under the current administration, Telangana had recorded some of the highest rates of crimes against women and cybercrime cases in the country. KTR further claimed that Revanth Reddy held the distinction of being the sitting Chief Minister facing the largest number of criminal cases nationwide.
Using a sarcastic tone, Rama Rao addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and remarked that Telangana was indeed “rising,” indirectly criticising the governance situation in the state. His comments quickly attracted political attention, adding further intensity to the ongoing controversy surrounding the POCSO case.
The remarks come amid growing political confrontation between the BRS, BJP, and Congress in Telangana. The controversy involving Bhageerath has now evolved beyond a criminal investigation and become a politically sensitive issue, with opposition leaders accusing rival parties of selective responses and political bias in handling serious allegations.
