KTR Uses Infosys Land Sale Row to Question Congress Government’s Land Policy in Telangana
BRS working president KT Rama Rao has accused the Congress-led Telangana government of selling valuable public land under the pretext of asset monetisation, questioning the legality and intent behind such moves. He claimed that nearly 9,300 acres of prime land, estimated to be worth around ₹5 lakh crore, is being prepared for sale by the state government.
Rama Rao’s remarks came in response to a social media post by Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram, who criticised Infosys for selling 53.46 acres of land in Attibele, Bengaluru, to the Puravankara Group for ₹250 crore. Karti argued that land allotted at concessional rates for specific purposes should not be sold at commercial prices and that such land, along with the proceeds, should revert to the government.
Drawing a direct parallel, Rama Rao said the same principle should apply in Telangana. He alleged that the Congress government was attempting to sell land that was originally allotted at subsidised rates for industrial development, job creation, and public benefit. “The government has no moral or legal right to sell these lands to generate revenue for its kith and kin,” he charged.
The BRS leader demanded that such parcels be reclaimed and redirected towards public infrastructure projects. He emphasised the urgent need for land to build schools, hospitals, affordable housing for the poor, parks, bus terminals, and parking facilities in rapidly growing urban areas.
Questioning the Congress party’s consistency, Rama Rao asked how the party could oppose land sales elsewhere while justifying large-scale monetisation in Telangana. He said the policy exposed double standards and warned that indiscriminate land sales would harm future generations by depriving them of critical public assets.
