KTR challenges opponents to compare Telangana's welfare and growth plans.
Putting politics aside, KTR said at the National Panchayat Awards event it was obvious why Telangana was different from other states.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Friday questioned the Centre's continuing discrimination towards the State despite all the achievements accomplished by Telangana in a short period, challenging Opposition parties to compare the welfare and development programmes being implemented in Telangana with those in Congress and BJP ruled States.
Since the formation of the State in 2014, the average annual income in Telangana has grown by nearly 300 percent, from Rs.1.24 million in 2014 to Rs.3.17 million through March of this year. He made this statement on Friday at this city's National Panchayat Awards ceremony. The survey, conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, found that corruption was lowest in Telangana compared to the other 13 states.
Despite Telangana's progress, the state was hit with financial penalties. The BJP administration insisted on power reforms, such as installing metres for agricultural pump sets, before granting the State permission to borrow Rs 30,000 crore.
But Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao fought against the irrational decision in the farmers' best interests, he said, and the federal government has kept enforcing restrictions on loans under the Fiscal Responsibility and Business Management Act during a fiscal year. He claimed that Rs.20,000 crore was reduced for the State by applying the FRBM Act to loans acquired by various corporations.
