KTR reveals fragrance-emitting saree

After weaving a saree packed in matchbox, Rajanna-Sircilla weaver Nalla Vijay has come up with a silver saree that emits an aroma.
Weavers had earlier weaved a silk saree that emanated fragrance.
Handlooms Minister KT Rama Rao, who congratulated Vijay for weaving the ‘Siri Chandana’ silk saree earlier this weekend, formally unveiled the silver saree. The silver saree was weaved using 8 tolas of silver, costing about Rs 45,000. Twenty-seven special aromatic liquids were also used, and despite regular washing, the aroma lasted for over two years.
Approximately 1.5 months are needed to weave a silver saree, which weighs 600 grams. Depending on the customers’ choice, more silver can be added, said Nalla Vijay. He said that the management of Kanyaka Parameshwari temple, Vanasthalipuram, has already placed an order for a silver saree.
As for the Siri Chandana Pattu saree, about 60 sarees have been sold so far, Vijay said. He further added that he would next weave a saree that would change colours like a chameleon.
