Kavitha's Custody Extended Amidst Protests: Allegations of Misuse of Central Agencies
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha's custody has been extended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until March 23 in connection with the recently annulled Delhi liquor policy scam case. Special Judge M K Nagpal granted the ED's request for remand amidst allegations of evidence tampering by the probing agency.
Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana CM Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested in Hyderabad on March 15 and transported to Delhi. Her arrest sparked protests across Telangana, with BRS supporters condemning it and alleging the BJP-led NDA government's misuse of central agencies. Protesters waved black flags, raised slogans against PM Modi, and demanded an end to what they view as unjustified arrests.
During the court appearance, Kavitha denounced her arrest as "illegal," with her advocate Vikram Chaudhari echoing the sentiment. However, the ED maintained that there exists substantial evidence and witness statements against Kavitha, further accusing her of destroying evidence related to the case.
The protests also featured placards reading 'We stand with Kavithakka', 'Stop illegal arrests immediately,' and 'Central government's stubborn attitude should end'. Effigies of PM Modi were burnt at various locations to underscore the demonstrators' discontent.
