Kim Jong-un Defends Nuclear Programme, Issues Warning to US
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to nuclear weapons development, describing it as essential for national security while sharply criticising the United States.
Speaking amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, Kim stated that North Korea’s nuclear programme is an “irreversible” strategic choice. He rejected past diplomatic efforts, including negotiations with Donald Trump, and emphasised that the country would continue strengthening its military capabilities.
Kim accused the US and its allies of destabilising the region by deploying strategic military assets near the Korean Peninsula. He characterised such actions as aggressive and claimed they justify North Korea’s continued weapons development.
He further asserted that the country is no longer in a defensive position but now possesses the capability to deter threats—and, if necessary, respond with force. According to him, nuclear weapons also play a role in supporting economic and national development.
Experts estimate that North Korea currently holds around 50 nuclear weapons, along with the capacity to produce more each year. The country is also believed to maintain a significant chemical weapons stockpile.
Kim’s remarks signal continued resistance to international pressure and indicate that denuclearisation talks are unlikely to resume in the near future, raising concerns about long-term stability in the region.
Fuel Supplies Stable, Say Indian Oil Companies Amid Panic Buying Rumours
India’s major oil marketing companies have reassured the public that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, urging citizens to avoid panic buying triggered by online rumours.
State-run firms including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited confirmed that supply chains across the country remain stable and fully operational.
Indian Oil stated that its entire distribution network—from refineries to retail outlets—is functioning smoothly, ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability. Similarly, BPCL highlighted increased domestic LPG production, which now meets a majority of daily demand, reducing reliance on imports.
The companies warned that misinformation has led to a temporary spike in demand, with petrol and diesel sales rising by over 15% nationwide and even higher in some areas. LPG demand also surged briefly before returning to normal levels.
Officials cautioned against unsafe practices such as storing fuel in containers, emphasising fire risks and urging customers to purchase only from authorised outlets.
With adequate reserves and incoming shipments already secured, oil companies stressed that there is no cause for concern. They advised the public to rely on official updates and maintain normal purchasing behaviour to avoid unnecessary disruptions.
