Left out of alliance Congress decides to contest for all 80 seats in UP
On Saturday in a joint press conference in Lucknow, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party had announced an alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls saying that they will contest for 38 seats each in UP. The main agenda behind this alliance was to unite and fight against the BJP. However, Congress was left out of this and when asked upon it Mayawati said that her party never benefited with any alliance with the Congres in the past.
Just a day after the BSP- SP alliance today Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad announced that the Congress will fight alone on all 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh in upcoming Lok Sabha Polls to be held later this year.
While addressing the press conference Azad said that just like 2009 when Congress won the Lok Sabha elections with around 21 seats even this time they are confident in winning twice those number of seats and will defeat BJP.
He also mentioned that the doors of BJP are always open for any specular regional party who would like to form an alliance to defeat BJP. On asked upon he also mentioned that the Congress party leaders were not disappointed about being left out rather were happy that instead of few they would now get a chance to contest for all 80 seats.
Although the expectations were that Congress would be a part of the alliance, however, BSP-SP decided to leave Congress out with announcing that they won't contest from Rae Bareli and Amethi.
