With a surge recorded in the no. of road fatalities on national highways (NH), the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is contemplating installing CCTV cameras every 2 km on the entire 230-km area passing through Krishna district, said M Vidyasagar, NHAI project director.
Speaking to TNIE on Saturday, Vidyasagar said that NH-16 and NH-65 pass through Vijayawada city, while one more 4-lane highway runs between Vijayawada and Machilipatnam.

Proposals are also under consideration to provide a similar facility on the 6-lane road, which is being developed between Vijayawada-Gundugolanu (78 km), and other routes where CCTV cameras are likely to come upon the NH stretches to include the 49-km area between Vijayawada-Nandigama and 37.9-km area between Chendragudem-Tiruvuru.
