Mandatory Original IDs Required for Women's Free Bus Travel in TSRTC
The Managing Director of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), VC Sajjanar, emphasized the mandatory requirement of original identification cards for women availing free bus travel under the Maha Lakshmi scheme.
Sajjanar noted the unexpected response to the scheme and urged female passengers to present original Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving License, or other government-issued cards to enjoy the zero-ticket benefit. He emphasized that photo copies, especially those on smartphones, would not be accepted. Sajjanar also encouraged women to update their ID cards, ensuring clear and current photographs for a smooth issuance of zero tickets. The free travel scheme is exclusively applicable to women from Telangana State, and those from other states must pay the mandatory charges for bus tickets.
In a bid to accommodate the increasing demand, the TSRTC management announced the introduction of 2050 new buses. The phased rollout over the next four to five months includes 1050 diesel buses and 1000 electrical buses to enhance the transportation infrastructure.
