Meta employee’s query Mark Zuckerberg's Rs 7 crore bonuses during company-wide layoffs.
Meta has stated that it will be laying off up to 21,000 people. Two layoffs have been announced: the first in November 2022 and the second just this past month. 11,000 people were laid off in the first round and another 10,000 in the second. On the other hand, the company's top executives received enormous bonuses. Many employees at Meta were not happy to hear that CEO Mark Zuckerberg rewarded some employees with large bonuses in layoffs.
Meta employee’s question mark Zuckerberg.
The Wall Street Journal claims that Mark Zuckerberg recently held a virtual Q&A session with employees. Some employees reportedly confronted the CEO during the same session, demanding to know why the company was rewarding its top executives with such large bonuses while conducting company-wide layoffs.
Why did all the executives get EE/GE ratings when they made the decisions that resulted in the company having to lay off 20%+ of its workforce? Who is responsible for this? An employee was quoted in the article.
Mark Zuckerberg reportedly told the worker that this was because he was "happy with the executives' performance in new and expanded roles."
During the same Q&A session, another worker voiced concern that they had "shattered the morale and confidence in the leadership of many high performers" and asked the CEO to give them a reason to stay. The worker said, "You have broken the spirit of many high performers and their faith in leadership. What's the point of staying in Meta?"
In response, the CEO of Meta claimed that nobody else "delivers social experiences" on a larger scale or across "such a diversity of different products and use cases" as his company does. The speaker continued, "So if you want to reach people in the billions and have a massive impact, I think this is a great place to be."
