Modi Calls For A Technological Revolution

With the vision to make the Indian economy a $5-trillion economy by 2024, PM Modi emphasizes on the revolution in science and technology.

"We need a revolution in science and technology, as they will play a key role in making India a $5-trillion economy by 2024," PM said after inaugurating the 107th Indian Science Congress in the tech city. Modi also asked the scientific community to find farmer-centric solutions to the problem of stalk burning.

"Likewise, can our technologists and scientists re-design brick kilns for reducing emissions and increase energy efficiency? Technology has to be used for rural development and enable farmers to sell their produce directly in the market," said the PM on the occasion.

"Digital technology, mobile banking services, e-commerce, are helping farmers. Technology has made it possible to build 2 crore houses for the poor in time," Modi insisted.

Declaring that the government was making efforts for the ease of doing science, the PM said, Information Technology (IT) was being used effectively to reduce red tape in administration and governance.

"We need to find ways to convert waste into wealth. As it is becoming a challenge for the country, Scientists should find an alternative to plastic and invent a device to recycle water," he noted.

He also points out that "Swachh Bharat" (Clean India Mission) and "Ayushman Bharat" (National Health Protection Scheme) were becoming successful using science and technology. The PM said the country should be able to eradicate Tuberculosis by 2020 as India was a global leader in supplying vaccines.
