Muslim Leaders Appeal to Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu to Oppose Central Amendments to Waqf Act
A delegation of Muslim association leaders, including All India Muslim Law Board representatives, TD MLAs, Minister N.M.D. Farooq, former Legislative Council Chairman M.A. Sharif, and party minority leaders met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday to voice concerns over recent amendments to the Waqf Act. The leaders, representing various states, expressed apprehension that the proposed amendments by the Central government could weaken the Waqf Board and adversely impact the rights of the Muslim community.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the delegation urged Naidu to reject the amendments and advocate against them in Parliament. Chief Minister Naidu assured the leaders that he would address their concerns, promising to discuss the implications of the proposed changes with the Central government before making a well-considered decision.
