NHAI will build 63 km of a four-lane road in Telangana.
As part of the proposed 568 km Hyderabad–Raipur Economic Corridor, also called the Hyderabad–Raipur Expressway, the Central government has permitted about 63 km of road in Telangana, from Bellampalli in Telangana to Gadchiroli on the border with Maharashtra, to be made into four lanes. The project is thought to cost about Rs 45,000 crore.
Roads and Buildings officials say that the road would go from Annaram near Bellampalli in the Mancherial district to Gadchiroli in Maharashtra near the border with Telangana. It would go through Veeravelli in the Asifabad district. The Hyderabad-Raipur Expressway project includes three road projects: the 325-km-long "greenfield section" from Durg to Gadchiroli to Bellampalli, the 35-km-long "brownfield upgrade of NH-363" stretch from Bellampalli to Mancherial, and the 208-km-long "brownfield upgrade of SH-1" stretch from Mancherial to Hyderabad.
At the moment, it takes 780 km to get from Hyderabad to Raipur. Officials say that after the new motorway is built, the straight distance will be cut by 250 km.
From Raipur, this motorway would go through Durg, Rajnandgaon, Gadchiroli, Gondpipri, Adilabad, Mancherial, Ramagundam, and Karimnagar on its way to Hyderabad.
As of now, there is a four-lane road that goes from Mancherial to Hyderabad. As part of the proposed Expressway, the Centre has decided to extend this road to Bellampally. A controlled greenfield road will be built on it. For this route, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has put out two bids. The plan is to finish this economic corridor by August 2025.
The project must buy about 1,048 acres of land, but a field study found no residential areas. Instead, there are about 6 km of forest land, officials said.
The northern end of the economic corridor would be south of Bhilai on the Durg-Raipur-Arang Expressway (NH53), and the southern end would connect to Hyderabad's Regional Ring Road (RRR) and Outer Ring Road (ORR), according to a senior official.
