Naidu Announces Telugu University Named After Potti Sriramulu
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced plans to establish a Telugu University in the State, naming it after Potti Sriramulu, the freedom fighter whose sacrifice led to the formation of linguistic States in India.
Speaking at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Sunday, on the occasion of Sriramulu’s 72nd death anniversary, Naidu declared that the leader’s birth anniversary on March 16, 2025, will be celebrated on a grand scale. He also revealed plans to develop Sriramulu’s residence in Nellore district as a memorial and build another in Amaravati.
Responding to the Telangana government's plans to rename the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Hyderabad, Naidu emphasized Andhra Pradesh's commitment to honoring Sriramulu’s legacy through this new institution. Recalling Sriramulu’s 58-day hunger strike that paved the way for linguistic reorganization, Naidu remarked, “Telugus will always be proud of his sacrifice.”
He also criticized the previous YSRCP regime for what he described as “bad governance,” accusing them of withdrawing developmental works in Sriramulu’s native place and stifling public discourse. Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to welfare and development, citing the recently released Swarna Andhra Vision 2047 as a roadmap inspired by icons like Sriramulu, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, and NT Rama Rao.
Crediting Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for successful Grama Sabhas, Naidu assured that the NDA government will continue to prioritize good governance for Andhra Pradesh.
