Naidu Orders Streamlined Sand Supply, New Policy to Address Demand from October 16
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials from the Mines and Geology Department to ensure a seamless supply of sand across the State, addressing any on-ground challenges to prevent inconvenience to consumers.
During a review meeting held on Friday with Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra, Principal Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena, and other officials, Naidu assessed the upcoming changes in sand distribution, including the launch of new sand reaches and the implementation of a revised sand policy from October 16.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that 108 new sand reaches, with a combined capacity of 70 lakh metric tonnes, will become operational by mid-October to meet rising demand. These new sources will increase daily sand availability by an additional 80,000 metric tonnes, complementing the existing supply of 30,000 metric tonnes per day.
Naidu emphasized the importance of streamlining sand booking processes, ensuring that consumers have access to both online and on-site registration options. He further urged officials to maintain strict oversight to prevent any irregularities in supply and to regularly update the public on sand availability, transportation logistics, and related costs.
To curb black marketing and expedite delivery, Naidu stressed the need for transparency and efficiency. He also directed that private sand miners, expected to begin operations soon, should sell sand at regulated prices to maintain fairness in the market.
