Naidu Vows Action on Alleged Bribery Scandal Involving Adani and YSRCP Government
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured the State Legislative Assembly on Friday that his government is scrutinizing the chargesheet reports from the United States regarding a bribery case implicating the previous YSRCP government and the Adani Group. Naidu promised to take appropriate action if irregularities are confirmed.
Referring to allegations made by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Naidu said, “I have all the chargesheet reports filed there (US). These are in the public domain. We will study the allegations and indictment thoroughly, act as required, and keep the Assembly informed.”
The SEC accused Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani of offering a bribe of ₹1,750 crore to former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in August 2021 to secure power purchase agreements with Andhra Pradesh’s power distribution companies. Both Adani and the YSRCP have denied the charges.
The matter was brought up in the Assembly by BJP floor leader P Vishnu Kumar Raju, who quipped that Jagan Mohan Reddy had become a “global leader in scams.” He called on the government to investigate the allegations thoroughly. Raju also accused the former Chief Minister of undervaluing major projects, such as the Gangavaram project, during his tenure.
Responding to the Assembly’s concerns, Naidu emphasized the importance of addressing public grievances and restoring the state's reputation. “For the past five months, we’ve been analyzing the damage and corruption caused by the previous government over five years. It is our responsibility to ensure such mistakes don’t recur,” Naidu said.
He further lamented the harm done to Andhra Pradesh’s brand image during Jagan’s regime and assured the Assembly that his government would verify the facts and take necessary action against wrongdoers to uphold public trust.
