Nara Lokesh Calls for Urgent Reforms to Revive Government Schools
HRD Minister Nara Lokesh has emphasized the need for immediate reforms in government schools to secure their future over the next decade. During a four-hour dialogue with teachers’ unions at his residence in Undavalli on Friday, Lokesh addressed key concerns, including alternative arrangements, the 100-day action plan, teacher transfers, promotions, and the repeal of GO 117.
Highlighting the government’s focus on learning outcomes over the past six months, he pointed out that weekly discussions with school education officials and teachers’ unions have been instrumental in tackling various challenges.
“We are open to rolling back decisions if mistakes are identified, but reforms are essential to address critical issues like the rising dropout rates and declining enrollment, especially among Muslim families,” Lokesh said.
The minister noted the success of the Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM), which has fostered greater accountability among teachers, parents, and the government. Special attention will be directed toward improving primary schools in SC and ST colonies. A revised curriculum will incorporate moral education and respect for women, inspired by recommendations from spiritual orator Chaganti Koteswara Rao.
Lokesh also announced compassionate job appointments for family members of teachers who pass away while in service. Secretary (School Education) Kona Sasidhar urged teachers to put in their best efforts to enhance educational outcomes.
