Over 30,000 Farmers In Khammam Will Receive The Assistance Of Rs 31 Crore Thanks To CM KCR's Visit.
Farmers in five district divisions will receive Rs.31 crore in aid after Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced a one-time relief plan of Rs.228 crore to compensate for losses incurred due to recent unseasonal rains.
Damage from the rains affected 31,038 acres of land in 157 villages, causing 19,732 farmers in the Khammam, Kusumanchi, Madhira, Sathupalli, and Wyra districts to lose standing crops such as maize, green gram, and black gramme. According to the official assessment, 30,792 acres of harvestable maize comprised most of the land lost.
Torrential downpours, gusty winds, and stagnant flood waters wiped out crops on 21,978 acres of land in the Madhira region. It is estimated that 21,901 acres of maize were lost, affecting as many as 15,860 farmers in the region.
A joyful group of tenant farmers
Tenant farmers, meanwhile, were overjoyed because the Chief Minister had finally chosen to provide them with crop loss compensation. The decision was made after Puvvada Ajay Kumar, the minister of transportation, and local representatives brought their predicament to the chief minister's attention.
The district collector, Chandrashekhar Rao, told reporters in Ravinutala, Bonakal Mandal, that many affected farmers were tenant cultivators. Ravinutala tenant farmer V Ramakrishna, who planted 17 acres of corn, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for assisting the region's farmers who rely on rent. He said that tenant farmers traditionally did the cultivating, but landowners received any disaster assistance in the past.
Both CPI State secretary Kunamneni Samba Siva Rao and CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram met with the Chief Minister while he was touring the devastated agricultural areas in the Khammam district. They were there with the Chief Minister when he gave his press conference.
