PM Modi Accuses Opposition of Spreading Lies and Inciting Riots Over CAA
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, May 16, criticized the Opposition for allegedly inciting riots and spreading misinformation about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking at an election rally in Lalganj, Azamgarh, Modi asserted that the process of granting citizenship under the CAA has already begun, and refuted claims by the Opposition's INDI alliance that the CAA would be repealed if they come to power.
Modi accused parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress of attempting to ignite communal unrest through falsehoods about the CAA. "They tried their best to burn the country, including UP, in riots. Even today, people of this INDI alliance say that Modi has brought the CAA and the day he goes, the CAA will also be removed. Desh mein koi maai ka laal paida hua hai jo CAA hata sake? (Has anyone been born in this country who can repeal the CAA?). Nobody can remove the CAA," Modi proclaimed, emphasizing that no one can undo the CAA and that it exposes the fake secularism and votebank politics of the Opposition.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the citizenship process for refugees, who have long resided in the country and were victims of the partition, has already started. He accused the Congress of historically neglecting these refugees.
Modi also pointed to the enthusiasm shown by voters in Srinagar as evidence that the abrogation of Article 370 is irreversible and that vote bank politics will not return. He accused the SP and Congress of selling appeasement, lies, family favoritism, and corruption.
Furthermore, Modi alleged that the SP and Congress aim to divide the national budget and allocate 15 percent to minorities. He praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for successfully implementing his cleanliness campaign and for taking action against mafia, rioters, and extortionists.
