PM Modi Inaugurates 594-km Ganga Expressway, Boosting UP Connectivity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-kilometre-long Ganga Expressway on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. The expressway connects Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east, significantly enhancing regional connectivity.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Hardoi district in the presence of Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other dignitaries. Designed as a six-lane highway expandable to eight lanes, the expressway supports speeds of up to 120 kmph, promising faster and safer travel.
Chief Minister Adityanath described the expressway as a “lifeline” for the state, highlighting its potential to connect villages, farmers, industries, and urban centers. The project spans 12 key districts, including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Shahjahanpur, and Rae Bareli, and is expected to reduce travel time significantly.
A notable feature of the expressway is a 3.2-km airstrip in Shahjahanpur, designed for emergency landings by Indian Air Force aircraft. The project also includes modern safety features such as CCTV surveillance, ambulances, patrol units, and an Intelligent Traffic Management System.
Developed under a public-private partnership model, the expressway is expected to drive industrial growth, with integrated logistics and manufacturing clusters planned along its route. Facilities like warehouses, cold storage units, and food processing hubs aim to attract investment and generate employment.
Additionally, the Ganga Expressway will connect with other major corridors, creating a vast road network across the state. Officials believe the project will play a key role in Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to become a trillion-dollar economy.
