PM Modi Writes Foreword for Giorgia Meloni’s Memoir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s autobiography I Am Giorgia – My Roots, My Principles. The book, published by Rupa Publications, is set to launch in India soon. Modi described the memoir as Meloni’s own “Mann Ki Baat,” a deeply personal account reflecting her values and struggles.
In his foreword, Modi praised Meloni as a patriot and a contemporary global leader whose life story would resonate with Indian readers. He noted that her journey reflects timeless truths about leadership, identity, and resilience. Modi highlighted her defense of cultural heritage while engaging with the world, drawing parallels with India’s own ethos.
Meloni’s memoir, first published in 2021, chronicled her rise from opposition leader to Italy’s first woman Prime Minister in 2022. It discusses the challenges she faced as an unmarried mother in politics and the smear campaigns targeting her gender, religion, and personal life. Her rallying cry, “I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am Italian, I am Christian,” became symbolic of her movement. She emphasized that motherhood is not a limitation but a strength in overcoming barriers.
The book has already been a bestseller in Italy and later released in the US with a foreword by Donald Trump Jr. In India, Modi emphasized shared values such as defending heritage, strengthening communities, and celebrating womanhood as guiding forces. He also noted that India and Italy’s partnership has deepened since Meloni’s 2023 visit, which elevated ties to a Strategic Partnership.
The foreword reflects Modi’s personal friendship with Meloni, reinforced by their widely discussed #Melodi camaraderie on social media. The memoir’s Indian edition is expected to attract significant attention, merging politics, personal struggle, and international solidarity into an inspiring narrative.
