PM Modi’s Push for Tech Innovation: Roundtable with Global CEOs Sparks Optimism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a three-day visit to the United States, held a significant roundtable with top technology leaders, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai. During the meeting, Modi urged these industry giants to seize the opportunity of India's rapid growth for collaboration and innovation.
Discussions centered around advanced fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology, life sciences, and semiconductor technologies. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement emphasizing the importance of these sectors in fostering technological progress between India and the world.
Sharing the event on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said: "Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation, and more. Also highlighted the strides made by India in this field. I am glad to see immense optimism towards India."
He also thanked the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), School of Engineering, and its Dean for facilitating the gathering. Modi emphasized that initiatives like the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) are central to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Assuring industry leaders of India's strong commitment to intellectual property protection, Modi highlighted the potential for co-development and co-production in India, taking advantage of the country's economic and technological advancements.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his government's dedication to making India a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, spotlighting the economic transformation underway. He introduced India's BIO E3 policy, which seeks to establish the nation as a leader in biotechnology. On AI, Modi reaffirmed India’s vision of promoting "AI for All," emphasizing its ethical and responsible use.
The CEOs, including leaders from Accenture, Adobe, Google, HP, and AMD, expressed strong interest in investing in India, particularly in its startup ecosystem. They praised the country’s potential for innovation and technological development.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai noted Modi’s focus on leveraging AI for healthcare, education, and agriculture, saying: “He challenged us to think about applications in these areas... He has a clear vision that AI should benefit the people of India.”
Pichai added that Google is committed to manufacturing Pixel phones in India and looks forward to deepening its partnerships in AI and other technologies.
The roundtable meeting attracted prominent leaders from major corporations such as IBM, Eli Lilly, NVIDIA, and Moderna, all of whom expressed optimism about future collaboration with India.
