Police Officer Positions Open to Green Card Holders
The United States of America has rigorous employment regulations for foreign nationals. It is common knowledge that by the time an Indian or Chinese person is granted citizenship, a sizable chunk of their lives has already elapsed. Green card holders are nevertheless limited in their employment options due to the government's insistence on citizenship for federal and state government positions.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, DC, previously exclusively accepted applicants from U.S. citizens, but recently stated that they would also accept applications from Green Card holders. Although a hiring freeze is officially acknowledged, the department's official justification for this move is diversity. The government is offering a $6,000 housing subsidy and a $25,000 recruiting bonus to get people to work there. This decision, for whatever reason, is very much appreciated. Though it's not the most thrilling option, Telugu speakers who are interested might pursue it now as they wait for citizenship.
