Political Parties Claim Victory as Lok Sabha Elections Near End
With the Lok Sabha Election results just five days away, political parties like BJP and Congress are already claiming victory. After six phases of voting, 486 seats have been contested, and the final 57 seats will be voted on June 1. Exit polls will be released on June 1 after 6:30 pm, and vote counting will take place on June 4. Analysts have made predictions, but five key states are crucial for winning power in Delhi:
Uttar Pradesh:
Holds the most seats: 80 (about 15% of the total).
In 2014, BJP won 71 seats; in 2019, it won 62 seats.
Both the NDA and INDIA bloc aim for a sweep this year.
Bihar:
Has 40 seats.
In 2014, the BJP-led NDA won 31 seats; in 2019, it won 39 seats.
This year, there's a close contest between the NDA and INDIA bloc, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav challenging the NDA.
Maharashtra:
Holds 48 seats.
In both 2014 and 2019, BJP+Shiv Sena won 41 seats.
This year, with the Shiv Sena and NCP split into factions, the election dynamics are different.
Tamil Nadu:
Has 39 seats.
In 2014, AIADMK won 37 seats; in 2019, DMK won 38 seats.
The BJP hopes to gain ground with leaders Narendra Modi and K. Annamalai.
West Bengal:
Holds 42 seats.
In 2014, BJP won 2 seats; in 2019, it won 18 seats, while TMC won 22 seats.
This year sees a three-way contest between TMC, BJP, and the Congress-Left alliance.
These five states account for 249 seats. In 2019, the NDA won 162 of these seats, while the opposition won 87. With a majority mark of 271, other states like Rajasthan (25 seats), Madhya Pradesh (29 seats), Gujarat (26 seats), and Karnataka (28 seats) will also be important in forming the next government.
