Republic Day Celebrations Held in Amaravati for the First Time; Governor Unfurls National Flag
Andhra Pradesh marked a historic milestone on January 26 as Republic Day celebrations were held in Amaravati for the first time since it was declared the state capital. Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer unfurled the national flag during the grand ceremony, symbolising a new chapter in Amaravati’s journey.
The celebrations took place at a specially arranged ground near the High Court complex. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Ministers Nara Lokesh, K. Atchannaidu, N. Narayana, Kollu Ravindra, and several other public representatives and officials attended the event.
Governor Abdul Nazeer inspected the parade and took the guard of honour from 11 participating contingents. Adding colour and vibrancy to the celebrations, as many as 22 tableaux were showcased, highlighting various development initiatives and welfare schemes of the Andhra Pradesh government.
This first-ever Republic Day celebration in Amaravati carried deep emotional significance. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has often stated that Amaravati stands as a symbol of the sacrifices made by thousands of farmers who voluntarily gave up their land for the capital city. Many believe that the courage and selflessness of these farmers form the true foundation of this historic occasion, reflecting the aspirations of over five crore people of Andhra Pradesh.
The tableaux presented by departments such as Vande Mataram, Ten Point Mission, Forest, Irrigation, School Education, Agriculture, and CRDA drew widespread appreciation. A large number of farmers, local residents, and youth from Amaravati actively participated, making the event vibrant and memorable.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu extended Republic Day greetings, recalling the adoption of the Constitution under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and emphasizing the importance of upholding constitutional values and strengthening democracy. Minister Nara Lokesh also conveyed his wishes, stating that the tricolour represents freedom, equality, and rights, and called upon citizens to work together towards building a developed India.
