Revanth Exploiting Poor, Says KTR on RTC Bus Fare Hike

BRS working president KT Rama Rao has strongly criticized the Congress government in Telangana for increasing RTC bus fares, accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of burdening the poor and middle class. Rao described the fare hike as “cruel and insensitive,” claiming it reflects the government’s disregard for the struggles of ordinary citizens.
The former minister said that the Rs 10 increase per ticket would impose severe financial stress on daily commuters, particularly those who depend on public transport for work and education. “How can the poor survive when they are squeezed further by such financial pressures?” he asked. Rao emphasized that this is not the first time the Congress government has raised fares, alleging that repeated hikes show the administration’s inability to manage finances effectively.
Highlighting the broader economic hardship, he said that with rising prices of essentials, an additional monthly transport expense of nearly ₹500 would severely strain household budgets. He urged the Chief Minister to withdraw the hike and consider more people-friendly alternatives.
Rao also reminded the public that during the BRS regime, subsidies and transport reforms aimed to protect commuters from inflationary shocks. His statement has sparked debate in political circles, with opposition parties echoing concerns that the Congress is exploiting the working class instead of supporting them during a challenging economic period.
